Message Triage
A sunlit mid-century sorting hall: walls of wooden pigeonholes, envelopes arcing through the air into four brass-trimmed chutes painted red, blue, ochre and gray, and a tidy desk with a green lamp, a fern and a steaming coffee.

A SynthOps install · for owners who are also the whole staff

Your inbox, sorted before your coffee cools.

Message Triage reads the pile so you don't have to. Every email lands in one of four chutes: Act, Reply, FYI or Ignore. The easy replies come pre-drafted. Nothing goes out until you say so.

Four chutes. That's the whole system.

The old sorting offices worked because every letter had exactly one place to go. Your inbox deserves the same courtesy.

Act

Needs you, and soon.

Deadlines, stranded clients, the printer waiting on a proof. Flagged at the top with the reason and the clock.

Reply

Needs an answer, not your afternoon.

Questions with easy answers get a draft in your voice. You read it, tweak it, hit send. Or don't.

FYI

Good to know. Not right now.

Receipts, confirmations, the board agenda. Gathered into one calm digest you read when you choose.

Ignore

Quietly out of the way.

Cold pitches, "you've won" emails, reply-all storms. Archived, never deleted, so nothing is truly lost.

Pick an inbox. Then pull the lever.

Want to play first? Tap a chute on any letter to make your own guess, then sort and see where you and the triage agree. On a keyboard, focus a letter and press 1–4.

Every name, business and email in this demo is invented. The real install reads your actual mail, and it never sends anything without your OK.

            House rules

            1. You stay the boss. It drafts. You send. There's no "auto-reply to clients" switch, on purpose.
            2. It doesn't do your craft. The design, the itinerary, the grant narrative stay yours. It clears the path to them.
            3. Nothing gets deleted. Ignore means archived. One search brings anything back.
            4. It learns from you. Drag a letter to a different chute and that becomes a rule.

We built it for our own inboxes first. It's the same triage our own assistants run every morning.

            The back room

Every sorting office has one. Cubbies nobody labels, objects nobody remembers bringing in, and one cat who has been on payroll since before the building had electricity. Have a look around.

Found 0 of 0 things that don't belong in a sorting office.

An antique wooden pigeonhole cabinet full of cream envelopes; a ginger cat sleeps in one cubby, a paper airplane rests in another, and there's a wax-sealed letter, a brass bell, a rubber stamp and a ball of twine.

              The Four-Chute Card

Sorting by hand until the install is ready? Ask each email one question, in this order. First yes wins.

              1. Act Will something break, cost money, or strand someone if I wait until tomorrow?
              2. Reply Is a person waiting on an answer I could give in under three lines?
              3. FYI Would I want to know this by Friday, but not right this minute?
              4. Ignore Everything else. Archive it. You will survive. So will they.
